Supreme Court’s Decision Does Not Allow Sweeping Changes this Cycle

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to today’s decision by the Supreme Court permitting states to use the modified SAVE system to conduct individualized inquiries into the citizenship status of registered voters, Tianna Mays, legal director at Democracy Defenders Fund, released the following statement.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision does not allow sweeping changes to voter rolls this close to the election. It only allows states to use the administration’s system to check individual registrations, and the rules governing this election remain in place. Eligible voters can keep casting their ballots, and election officials can keep doing their jobs without last-minute disruptions.
“We and our partners will continue to fight this and every other desperate effort to cling to power by limiting access to the ballot box. We choose our leaders, they don’t choose their voters.”
