Defending the Rule of Law
Autocracy forms when the rule of law disappears. We work tirelessly to hold wrongdoers accountable. Often that means suing bad actors—including the government itself—on behalf of the American people and the individuals directly harmed by policies that undermine democracy and violate the constitution.

Our case Barbara v. Trump protected the birthright citizenship of approximately 250,000 babies from the Trump administration’s executive order.

We have won injunctions in eight cases challenging mass firings across the government, stopping the shutdown of AmeriCorps, the Voice of America, and the TSA union, and we halted the illegal firing of federal workers during the government shutdown. Altogether, we have protected hundreds of thousands of civil servants from unlawful terminations, which have disproportionately impacted marginalized groups.

With co-counsel, we are fighting back against illegal terminations, such as Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.

We helped remove multiple U.S. attorneys who were illegally appointed by the Trump administration (including Alina Habba), and our same legal theory stopped the politically-motivated prosecutions of Letitia James and James Comey.
