VERDICT IN JUDGE HANNAH DUGAN CASE LIKELY HEADED FOR APPEAL
Press Release | December 18, 2025
MILWAUKEE — A federal jury today convicted Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan on a felony obstruction charge while rejecting a misdemeanor count. Judge Dugan had been charged with felony obstruction and misdemeanor concealment following allegations that she improperly interfered with an attempted immigration arrest in her courtroom.
Amb. Norm Eisen (ret.), executive chair of Democracy Defenders Fund, issued the following statement in response to the verdict:
“This case is far from over. Substantial legal and constitutional issues remain unresolved, and they are exactly the kinds of questions appellate courts are meant to address. Higher courts will have the opportunity to determine whether this prosecution crossed the lines that protect the judiciary from executive overreach.
“The financial toll of this case on Judge Dugan remains substantial. Continued public support will be essential to help cover remaining legal expenses and fund the next phase of the legal process.”
