DEMOCRACY DEFENDERS FUND SUES DOJ OVER REFUSAL TO RELEASE TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES
Press Release | September 12, 2025
WASHINGTON D.C. — Democracy Defenders Fund (DDF) has expanded its lawsuit against the Trump Administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) over the refusal to release the Trump-Epstein files. The public’s right to know the truth about Donald Trump’s connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is at stake.
In July, DDF submitted a series of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the federal government seeking records from its investigations of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The organization is specifically seeking records mentioning President Trump or his Mar-a-Lago residence, as well as communications among top DOJ leaders relating to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, including discussions of how department officials should address references to Donald Trump or Mar-a-Lago in any files.
“Every day the administration refuses to release the Trump-Epstein files is another day the public is denied the truth about Trump’s ties to the convicted sex offender,” said Amb. Norm Eisen (ret.), executive chair of Democracy Defenders Fund. “The games the administration is playing with re-releasing already public documents is another betrayal of survivors and another reminder that the powerful are being shielded while the public is kept in the dark. If the courts do not require the administration to come clean, history will record this as a brazen abuse of power.”
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, asks the court to order the government to produce the requested documents, as required by public records laws.
DDF has also requested records related to the abrupt transfer of Maxwell to a minimum security prison camp, following her meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. The organization will pursue similar legal remedies if they are not produced in a timely manner.
