DEMOCRACY DEFENDERS FUND SUES DOJ OVER CONTINUED STONEWALLING ON TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES

Press Release | December 4, 2025

Democracy Defenders Fund (DDF) has expanded its lawsuit against the Trump administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) over the refusal to release the Trump-Epstein files. The new filing comes as the deadline for release of the full files required by the Epstein Files Transparency Act is fast approaching.

The lawsuit follows a series of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests DDF has made to the federal government seeking records from its investigations of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The organization is specifically seeking records mentioning President Trump or his Mar-a-Lago residence, as well as communications among top DOJ leaders relating to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, including discussions of how department officials should address references to Donald Trump or Mar-a-Lago in any files. The requests also seek records of any communications between top leadership at DOJ and Bureau of Prisons (BOP) related to the transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell to a cushy prison camp, following her meeting with Trump’s former personal attorney, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

“Given the unabashed stonewalling by the Department of Justice so far, it is hard to believe they will suddenly come clean with these files and reveal the truth about Trump’s ties to the convicted sex offender,” said Amb. Norm Eisen (ret.), executive chair of Democracy Defenders Fund. “These files must be released immediately and in their entirety. If the coming deadline imposed by Congress comes and goes without that, the courts must require it. Each day that goes by is a betrayal of the victims, who have already suffered so much, and the public, who deserve the truth.”

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, asks the court to order the government to produce the requested documents, as required by public records laws.

The lawsuit can be found HERE.
