Following is a statement by Amb. (ret) Norm Eisen, executive chair of Democracy Defenders Fund regarding the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James. 

"“The justice system is being hijacked so the president can settle political scores, and Attorney General Letitia James is the latest target. James has done her job as a prosecutor and public servant without fear or favor, including against powerful figures like Trump and his businesses. And that’s why she’s in his crosshairs now.

“Until now, career prosecutors have declined to indict her because the facts and law don’t support it. But Trump has reshaped the Justice Department in his own image, forcing resignations, firing officials, pressuring prosecutors, and installing loyalists willing to carry out politically motivated prosecutions.

“Democracy Defenders Fund stands with AG James and with all public servants who act based on facts, law, and integrity. We will be amending our ethics complaint against interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan to cover this new outrage, and we will pursue other legal measures.”
