ETHICS EXPERTS URGE INVESTIGATION OF ALINA HABBA FOR HATCH ACT VIOLATIONS
Press Release | July 18, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ethics experts today sent a formal letter to the Office of the Special Counsel and Office of Government Ethics requesting an investigation into possible violations of the Hatch Act, as well as misuse of official position, by Alina Saad Habba. Habba previously served as Counselor to the President, and until this morning, was serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.
The letter details an interview Habba gave to Jack Posobiec in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building located in the White House complex. In the interview, she discussed turning “New Jersey red” and expressly encouraged voters to support the President’s policies by electing Republicans.
The Hatch Act regulation makes clear that it is a prohibited use of official authority for employees to use their official title or position while participating in political activity, which is defined as activity directed toward the success or failure of a political party, partisan political group, or candidate for partisan political office.
The letter was sent by Amb.Norm Eisen, Former Special Counsel to President Barack Obama, Virginia Canter, Former Associate Counsel to President Barack Obama and President Bill Clinton and Richard W. Painter, Former Associate Counsel to President George W. Bush.
