WASHINGTON D.C. - Democracy Defenders Fund Executive Chair Amb. Norm Eisen (ret.) released the following statement in response to the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles by President Trump.

“President Trump is unlawfully deploying military units to respond to  civilian protests. He is relying on a statute that’s never been used for this purpose before in our nation’s history.

“There was no invasion or other basis as required by the statute. And there are many other legal flaws.

It’s unfounded, reckless and wrong. President Trump has no authority to unleash military forces on civilian protesters."
